My name is Cory Hutchison, and I’ve spent the better part of two decades in the IT industry. I have a passion for the concept of leadership: What is it? Who has it? Can it be taught or does it have to be identified? When is it good, and how can it go bad? How do I know I’m doing it well?
Needless to say, quality of leadership has a strong impact on the success of any organization. We’ve all seen organizations and teams with good leadership succeed over the years even through transitions of power, while those with poor leadership stumble from crisis to scandal often all the way to their demise.
In my career I’ve experienced numerous styles of leadership, and have developed some strong opinions on the subject and a set of principles that I apply to my own work and to the teams that I manage. These principles give me goals to reach for, guidance in behaviors, and rules to live by, and I decided to put together this blog to share this experience.
Please keep in mind that what I write here are my opinions and beliefs not facts, they are observations and guidelines not laws of the universe, and as such, they are open to interpretation and evolution as I gain new experiences. This blog is my attempt to express the best way to assemble, manage, and develop a team in order to achieve the best performance they are capable of.
While leadership is a very subjective thing, this advice is intended to be very practical, and every entry is aimed to answer very specific questions and be applicable in everyday life. Comments, suggestions, and general interactions are very welcome, as my journey is ongoing, and I hope to learn as much from this exercise as you do.
